Job Summary
Job Description
Solihull CEP are delivering a detached youth arts project across Chelmsley Wood and Marston Green in partnership with Solihull Council and youth workers from MAPA (Meriden Adventure Playground Association). The project is funded by Million Hours and will run until March 2027. The project will use the Solihull Youth Bus alongside centre-based provision. The project aims to develop a strong local cultural and youth offer while positively engaging young people in areas where anti-social behaviour has been identified, providing constructive alternatives through creativity.
Sessions will be informal, drop-in, and will be delivered alongside a minimum of 2 youth workers.
Sessions will be intentionally flexible and responsive. Delivery will be relatively ad hoc, with different art forms offered week to week, allowing the programme to adapt to emerging needs, interests, and local contexts.
Sessions will generally be 5:30-7:30pm, with some flexibility during holidays / half terms etc.
We are seeking a broad range of artistic practices in order to appeal to the diverse interests, abilities, and backgrounds of young people across both areas. This may include (but is not limited to) DJing/ music production, filmmaking, visual arts, digital media, street arts, creative writing, or other participatory art forms. Solihull CEP's Youth Board will feed into the decision-making process around which art forms are prioritised, ensuring the programme reflects young people's voices and creative interests.
Fee: £150 per 2 hour session
Minimum of 5 sessions per artist, with more added dependent on response from young people.
Job Requirements
A minimum of two years experience working with children and young people, ideally in informal or community settings
Are creative, flexible, and confident delivering sessions in non-traditional environments.
Have an understanding of the challenges and barriers associated with youth arts engagement and detached youth work.
Are able to build rapport quickly and communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds.
Familiarity with Solihull (in particular, areas of Chelmsley Wood & Marston Green) is preferred, but not essential.
Enhanced DBS and Public liability insurance (min £5m) in place.
Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding practices.
Job Responsibilities
Design and lead inclusive, hands-on creative sessions for young people.
Deliver detached drop-in sessions on the youth bus, and sessions at centre-based locations as appropriate.
Work alongside experienced youth workers, ensuring sessions are safe, engaging and supportive.
Respond flexibly to the needs, interests, and energy of young people attending sessions.
