Job Summary

Bradford Police Museum is looking for an experienced and passionate leader to join us as our Volunteer Museum Director.

Job Description

Bradford Police Museum is seeking a committed and forward-thinking Volunteer Museum Director to help shape our next chapter. This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership, strengthen our governance, and champion the long-term future of a distinctive, volunteer-led heritage charity in the heart of Bradford.

Bradford Police Museum is run by a dedicated team of approximately 45 volunteers alongside our Museum Manager, the museum's only paid member of staff. Together, this team delivers public openings, educational visits, collections care, events and community engagement.

The Volunteer Museum Director will work alongside the Museum Manager to support and advise on strategic projects, helping to guide sustainable growth while maintaining clear boundaries around operational delivery.

About the Role

The Volunteer Museum Director provides strategic leadership, advocacy and oversight in support of the Museum Board.

The role exists to help shape the museum's long-term direction, represent the museum externally where appropriate, and support good governance - while not being involved in day-to-day operations or delivery.

This position would suit someone with experience in leadership, governance, strategic planning, heritage, the voluntary sector, or cultural organisations who is motivated by community impact and sustainable growth.

Time Commitment:
Approximately 8 hours per week, which would be flexible and largely self-directed. Some alignment with the Museum Manager's working hours may be beneficial and the role would require attendance at Board Meetings (4 times per year, online).

  • Experience contributing to governance, fundraising direction and organisational development
  • The chance to work alongside a passionate team of volunteers and staff dedicated to preserving Bradford's policing heritage
