We’re looking for a Chair who believes in the power of stories to change lives. You’ll lead our Board, provide clear strategic direction, and help New Perspectives thrive with strong, values-led governance, working alongside fellow Trustees and the Artistic Director/CEO to shape the organisation.

Job Description

New Perspectives is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, creating and touring ambitious theatre rooted in regional communities and presented nationally and internationally.

The organisation is governed by a Board of Trustees, who are also directors of the company. The Board delegates day-to-day management and artistic leadership to the Artistic Director/CEO (Angharad Jones) and Executive Director (Sally Anne Tye).

As the current Chair is stepping down, New Perspectives is seeking a new Chair of Trustees to lead the Board into the next phase of the organisation's development.

The Chair provides strategic leadership and ensures high standards of governance, financial stewardship and compliance, acting as an ambassador for the organisation, including leading the Board's strategic relationship with Arts Council England.

This is an unremunerated role, with reasonable pre-agreed expenses reimbursed.

The expected time commitment is approximately two days per month, including Board meetings, engagement with the Executive team and attendance at performances and events. Meetings are a mix of in-person and online.

The appointment is for an initial term of up to four years, with the possibility of renewal at the Board's discretion.

Job Requirements

We welcome candidates who can demonstrate:

  • A solid grasp of governance principles and the business of chairing ideally with an understanding of charity governance from experience as a Trustee.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience of supporting and challenging senior executives.
  • Confidence in networking and advocating at a senior level, including fundraising and stakeholder engagement.
  • Knowledge of theatre and the arts, and understanding of the voluntary, subsidised and commercial sectors.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to dedicating the time required to lead the Board and support New Perspectives' strategic goals.
