Job Summary

Help form our first board of Trustees, and in so doing our ambitious vision for the radicelevation of the ordinary, overlooked, underappreciated and undervalued.

Job Description

Board of Directors (Trustees) - Extraordinary Us CiC

Work with us to outrageously elevate the ordinary. Because perfection is completely over-rated.

Extraordinary Us is an arts production company based in Coventry that empowers people, shifts perceptions of personal significance, and celebrates the big and small contributions we all make to the world around us.

We uncover the "extra" in ordinary and make a fuss out of "us".

We are currently looking for volunteer Trustees to become Company Directors and form our first formal board. Over the next three years, you will help us to ambitiously champion the ordinary and redefine what "significance" looks like in a world obsessed with unrealistic perfection.

We are all imperfectly perfect, and we welcome your imperfectly perfect application.

Our Projects

This board will support a bold portfolio of work, including [but not at all limited to]:

  • www.themuseumofme.co.uk - The Museum of Me: A public museum dedicated to the life of a single community resident.

  • www.autumnisqueer.co.uk - Autumn is Queer: A cultural movement transforming how we celebrate identity and seasonal change.

  • The Weight of War: An international partnership (including partners across Rwanda, Kosovo, USA, Northern Ireland and South Korea) exploring the Weight of War upon those too young to live through it - initiated by our Cov Kid Paul O'Donnell... who was born 51 years after the Coventry Blitz but still feels completely crafted by it.

Who We Are Looking For

In this primary development of our board our initial interests are broad, we're starting afresh but we want to know that you can compliment and challenge our leadership teams expertise. Loosely...

Paul: Creative, partnership building, idea creation, project development and realisation.

Bev: HR, policy development and financial oversight.

We are interested in individuals with a wide range of skills and with a passionate heart for the power of a fiercely unified community.

Job Requirements

What We Ask Of You

  • Financial Strategies that work for varied, dynamic and multifaceted organisations.
  • Marketing and Communications: particularly in engaging marginalised individuals, communities or identities.
  • Community Engagement and Organising: bringing multiple people, parties and agendas together with a united vision to push forward local, social, cultural and political aspirations.
  • Commercial Outputs: our work is ready for commercial outputs, can you help us engage new outputs and possibilities.
  • Knowledge of External Structures: outside of the direct cultural sector systems or approaches.

Job Responsibilities

Your Director role will involve:

  • Directing the organisation: towards its ambitious and powerful future.

  • Strategic Guidance: Guide the organisation at a strategic level while the team handles delivery. We welcome your experience, challenges, and robust conversations.

  • Advocacy: Spread the word about Extraordinary Us. Use your networks-within or outside "The Arts"-to create meaningful impact and mutually beneficial engagement.

  • Governance: Attend four 2-hour online meetings a year and review preparatory documents. Together, we will navigate the best approach for our extraordinary ambition.

  • Specialism: Support or lead sub-groups in your areas of expertise. Nurture our leadership team by provoking and challenging our thinking.
