Job Summary

The Bomb Factory Art Foundation is seeking to appoint an Artist Trustee to join its Board.

Job Description

This appointment offers an exciting opportunity to contribute strategically to the next phase within this small but ambitious organisation and to communicate the Bomb Factory's evolving role as a key organisation within the London arts ecosystem. Our Aims: - Participation & Community: Free exhibitions and events accessible to all. - Learning & Development: Workshops, outreach, and internships opening pathways into creative careers. - Collaboration & Networks: Connecting artists and organisations to share ideas and opportunities. - Exhibitions & Studios: Bold exhibitions and affordable studios supporting growth and experimentation. - Sustainability & Resilience: Ensuring London's artistic ecosystem thrives long-term. Over the past few years The Bomb Factory has experienced rapid growth. We now operate a mix of permanent and "meanwhile" art hubs and continue to seek new buildings to further our charitable aims. In the year to March 2025, the organisation generated revenues of £657k. The year 2025 also marked the Bomb Factory's 10th anniversary - a milestone that underscores its long-term impact, evolution, and resilience in a volatile art landscape. As we look to the future - our landmark programme Not Another Art School, will offer long-term residencies, mentorships, and educational courses for those without the means to attend art school. A genuine alternative that keeps art accessible, open, and alive for the next generation. We've shown that meanwhile spaces can spark creativity, energise neighbourhoods, and give artists the chance to thrive. But meanwhile spaces are temporary. We need a longer-term home to realise this vision.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate many of the following attributes and experience: - A practising artist, designer or maker with an active and ongoing creative practice. - Strong understanding of the contemporary UK art landscape. - A commitment to widening access to the arts through education and addressing structural barriers. - Familiarity with the London studio sector and the specific needs of studio-holding artists. - Awareness of the challenges facing artists, including financial pressures, workspace access, and career sustainability. - Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion within arts contexts. - Experience of arts education or vocational training. - Insight into mentoring, professional development pathways, skills development and career progression for artists. The full role description can be found on our website.
