Job Description

Bow Street Museum of Crime and Justice (BSMCJ) is seeking a Marketing Consultant to support their National Lottery Heritage Fund project 'Echoes from the Dock'. The successful consultant will be engaged to develop and implement a marketing plan for the overall project. The project will conserve and increase the accessibility of the dock Oscar Wilde stood in for his committal hearing at Bow Street Magistrates' Court in 1895, build a co-produced exhibition with the LGBTQ+ community amplifying unknown LGBTQ+ stories and voices connected to crime and justice, both historical and in living memory and build the resilience of Bow Street Museum of Crime and Justice.

Job Requirements

It is expected that the appointed Marketing Consultant will be able to demonstrate that they have the following experience, skills and knowledge: Previous experience of developing and implementing marketing plans for National Lottery Heritage Fund projects and exhibitions, or similar. In-depth knowledge of marketing channels and proven experience in optimising marketing performance Previous experience of mentoring and training in a museum or heritage setting. An understanding of heritage and museum projects. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people around potentially sensitive topics.

Job Responsibilities

Support the Project Lead, Assistant Museum Manager, Project Curator and wider Museum Team to promote all aspects of the project, including public consultation and engagement opportunities through pop-ups explaining the project and its aims. Establish monthly mentoring meetings over the duration of the project with the Assistant Museum Manager to develop their overall marketing skills. Support the project and team to promote community participation and consultations to help plan a series of events and talks around the accompanying exhibition. Support the project and team to promote the launch of the exhibition and its related events programme. Evaluate the development of the Assistant Manager's marketing skills at the beginning and end of the project.

The total expected budget for the role is up to £3,000 (excluding VAT) over the duration of the project. Please note that this figure should include all associated costs including travel and expenses. A payment schedule will be agreed at the start of the contract.
There is an additional budget of up to £2,400 (excluding VAT) to cover costs of marketing materials for public consultation on dock access, pop-ups explaining the project and engagement opportunities throughout, the marketing of the exhibition and the marketing of the subsequent project events programme.
