Job Description
Asymmetry is seeking a part time freelance Audiovisual Archivist to organise and catalogue a documentary media collection focused on Chinese contemporary art. Working on a project-basis, the specialist will help bring structure, clarity, and accessibility to a large set of audiovisual interviews recorded in both English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese). The role is practical, detail oriented, and ideal for someone comfortable with hands on media handling, cataloguing, and documentation.
Job Requirements
ESSENTIAL
-- Experience with audiovisual archiving, media cataloguing, or digital asset management.
-- Knowledge of metadata standards and basic digital preservation practices.
-- Fluency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese).
-- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
-- DESIRABLE
-- Familiarity with Chinese or Sinophone contemporary art and artists, to support accurate contextualisation of interviews and meaningful metadata.
-- Experience working in arts, cultural, or small team environments.
Job Responsibilities
-- Conduct an inventory and technical review of all media files in the collection.
-- Organise, label, and catalogue audiovisual materials using clear and consistent metadata.
-- Create a simple, searchable overview of interviews, contributors, and key themes.
-- Provide bilingual (English-Chinese) descriptions where needed to support identification and context.
-- Advise on digital preservation, storage, and future access workflows
-- Produce concise reports and recommendations as the project progresses, including a final report.
