Job Summary

The Anne Dyer Foundation is looking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced manager to run Westhope Craft College, situated in a picturesque valley in South Shropshire. The successful candidate will be expected to build on the college’s ongoing success.

Job Description

To ensure that all aspects of Westhope Craft College are managed to the highest possible standard, overseeing the smooth running of all activities whilst also holding responsibility for the upkeep of the building and facilities. This role is key to providing a welcoming, supportive and hospitable environment for students, guests and visitors who arrive for day courses, accredited courses and residential bookings. The post will manage the City & Guilds Course Co-Ordinator, Workshop Co-Ordinator, Bookkeeper, Catering Manager, Maintenance and IT Co-Ordinator, Gardener and Housekeeper. It reports to the Board of Trustees of the Anne Dyer Foundation of which Westhope College is a part.

Westhope Craft College is run by a team of seven staff supported by the General Manager, who manage the college, its buildings and grounds and host Westhope's courses. We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal and management skills for this fulfilling and vital role of General Manager.

Job Requirements

The key responsibilities of this role include:
day to day staff and building management,
working hours: 4 days a week 8.30 til 5.30pm with flexibility to cover evenings and weekends as required
arts and craft course coordination, including City & Guilds courses
finance management and data monitoring
managing all areas of Health and Safety, food hygiene
monitoring risk management
The successful candidate will report to the board of trustees as required and follow the guidelines of the Charity Commission.

Job Responsibilities

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work positively with people from all backgrounds
- Demonstrate strong leadership, taking overall responsibility for the management of the college, including all activities, staff, buildings and grounds
- Experience and understanding of financial management
- Work within the guidelines of the Charity Commission
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- The ability to solve problems and deal with any issues that arise calmly and with authority
- An interest in arts and crafts
An awareness of the challenges and issues of managing and maintaining an old building
- IT literacy and the ability to learn how to use new programmes
- A commitment to equal opportunities and ensuring access for all to Westhope's courses
- Ability to work flexibly, as the demands of the job require, within the contracted hours, including evenings and weekends
- Ability to reach the college in less than 60 minutes from home
