Are you passionate about creating inspirational artworks in public spaces for everyone to enjoy?
Do you love engaging communities in your design process?
If so, we need your creative skills to join a team of Artists creating unique artworks as part of the 'Made You look' programme.
Made You Look will celebrate a sense of place and community through bold artworks in public places in four locations across Wigan borough in 2026. This brief is for the first two commissions as part of this programme.
Current Opportunities:
2 mural art opportunities in Swinley and Mosley Common (we are looking for two different artists to each deliver one commission).
Budget: All inclusive fee of £12,000 per commission (inclusive of VAT if applicable).
Timeframe: April - November 2026.
Application Deadline: Monday 20th April 2026, 12 noon.
Online Interviews: w/c 4 May 2026 - date to be agreed.
Preference for North West based Artists (or those with a connection), but not essential.

Job Requirements
Permanent mural / 2D artwork - minimum expected lifespan 5 years.
Community engagement - activities to be agreed in advance with individual community partners and Beam.
Undertake research to feed into the place specific design.
Presentation of design proposal to the Community Partners, DTE Wigan and Beam.
The artwork must be durable, weatherproof, and consider mitigations for vandalism with a clear maintenance plan and thoughts regarding decommissioning in place.
The Artist should consider how they will address environmental sustainability e.g. utilising Low VOC spray paint, paint that absorbs C02, recycled materials, local suppliers etc.
Job Responsibilities
The Artist will be required to (or work with their sub contractor/s) to design, fabricate and install their work, arranging the necessary equipment for safe installation and liaise with Beam to ensure all necessary information is available for a Risk Assessment Method Statement (RAMS) so that street permits can be issued.
Supply content to support the submission of any necessary permissions required, e.g. Planning Applications/ Advertising Consents.
Proposed sites for artworks have been selected with community partners and confirmation of permissions is pending. Specific sites indicated in Appendix 1 may be subject to change and comparable suitable alternatives sought if required. This would be in dialogue between the community group, the artist and Beam.
