Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a year‑long programme supporting visual artists and filmmakers through workshops, residencies and exhibitions, shaping HOME’s creative spaces, building partnerships and nurturing emerging talent.

Job Description

In this role you will work with the Head of Artist Development to plan, manage and deliver HOME's year-round programmes for Visual Arts and Film creatives, acting as a core member of the Artist Development Team and supporting wider organisational projects. You will curate annual exhibitions in the Granada Foundation Galleries and curate the HOME Arches window space, managing commissions and maximising opportunities for emerging artists. The role includes managing artist and supplier contracts, coordinating logistics for commissions or loans, and overseeing installation and deinstallation. You will deliver high-quality development projects onsite particularly within HOME Arches and online, while leading relationships with freelancers, advisors and partners to support Greater Manchester filmmakers. Working with the Head of Artist Development, you will design and implement initiatives to grow the presence of Visual Artists and Filmmakers across HOME Arches, providing guidance on funding, production and public presentation. You will collaborate with other departments to create pathways for ongoing artist development, manage multiple project budgets, and deliver monitoring, evaluation and written reporting. You will also support fundraising with the Development Team and profile the programme in partnership with Marketing and Communications. As an advocate for HOME's Artist Development work, you will represent GMAC at networks, conferences and events, while working collaboratively across the organisation to contribute to an integrated, ambitious and creative programme.

Job Requirements

The role requires strong working knowledge and understanding of Visual Arts, including awareness of funding bodies and the Visual Arts scene in Manchester and Greater Manchester. It also requires experience in delivering and managing artist development programmes and providing guidance to emerging and mid career artists, with the ability to hold in depth conversations about their work. A solid understanding of the practicalities involved in delivering public exhibition programmes is essential, alongside experience in project management, managing multiple projects, and implementing effective administrative and budgeting processes. The role also demands experience in monitoring and evaluation, as well as writing reports for trustees, funders and wider stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

You will promote and embed equality, diversity and inclusion as a core part of working at HOME, leading by example in all aspects of the role. As an advocate and ambassador for HOME, you will represent the organisation positively and uphold its values in all interactions. You will also support the effective management of health and safety arrangements for staff, contractors and audiences, ensuring safe working practices across all activity.
In this role you will uphold and follow GMAC policies, particularly those relating to diversity, environmental sustainability, maintaining a positive work environment, sexual harassment, access, safeguarding, health and safety, and GDPR. You will carry out any other duties that are consistent with the role or directed by your Line Manager, and you will take part in relevant working groups and training sessions as required.
You will stay up to date with financial, administrative and operational best practice and be prepared to work evenings, weekends
