Job Summary
Job Description
We want our Board to reflect the richness and diversity of the communities we serve and the artists we work alongside. We warmly welcome expressions of interest from people of all backgrounds, and particularly encourage applications from people with lived experience of the care system.
We are especially interested in hearing from:
People with experience in philanthropy and finance.
People with lived experience that brings insight into trauma-informed or relational practice.
People with skills or ideas that could help Blue Cabin grow - even if they don't fit neatly into a specific category.
People who have not been a Trustee before. We value fresh perspectives and are committed to supporting new Trustees to develop their confidence and leadership skills.
Trustees guide and oversee the organisation in line with the priorities set out in our 2026-2028 Business Plan. In particular, Trustees support Blue Cabin to:
Strengthen organisational capacity and resilience, including leadership development, succession planning and effective governance.
Diversify and grow income streams, supporting ethical fundraising and long-term financial sustainability.
Deepen impact through evaluation and learning, ensuring our trauma informed work continues to be evidence-based and sector-leading.
Grow strategic partnerships and advocacy, strengthening relationships with Local Authorities, Virtual Schools, cultural partners and national networks.
Embed equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across governance, staffing, partnerships and programme delivery.
Trustees are appointed for an initial term of three years. We ask Trustees to commit approximately up to eight hours per month, including attending meetings and occasional involvement in sub-groups or events.
Job Requirements
Trustees are expected to attend Board meetings (four per year plus two away days), participate in relevant sub-groups (e.g. safeguarding, finance, trauma informed practice), and act as ambassadors for Blue Cabin - championing our work, values and impact within their networks.
Job Responsibilities
Trustees help ensure that Blue Cabin remains: A strong and financially resilient charity A trusted advocate for care-experienced people A leading organisation in trauma-informed creative practice An inclusive, caring and values-led employer A respected partner locally, nationally and internationally
