JOB TITLE: Sessional Sewing Tutor
HOURS REQUIRED: 3 hours per week in term time for 6 months to deliver one programme initially, moving on to deliver more than one programme after that.
REMUNERATION: £27 to £32 per hour based on experience
About Kundakala C.I.C.
Kundakala (https://kundakala.org) is a social enterprise in the UK that aims to empower ethnic minority women to come together, connect, develop enterprise skills, and become professional seamstresses. Through our programmes, women can save money, reduce debt, and explore an avenue of income generation if they wish to do so.
Role Profile
The sewing tutor will teach sewing to adult women beginners (mainly from low-income ethnic minority backgrounds) in community centres across London. Each programme runs for 21 three-hourly sessions in term time
The sewing tutor will be expected to deliver a programme to our standarised, curriculum. In some boroughs, we work with Adult Community Learning to deliver a Level 1 Award and a Level 1 Certificate in Fashion and Textiles to the learners.
Lesson plans and patterns will be provided.
Job Requirements
Teaching qualification
Degree in fashion/textiles or similar
Knowledge of different sewing machines, and skill in teaching learners their use
Ability to work with patterns, and make new ones if required
Previous experience of working with community groups
An understanding of inclusivity in teaching and accommodating for a diverse range of cultural backgrounds
Ability to interact with all kinds of learners, and to match their learning goals to their desired outcomes
