Job Description
Buying & Product Management:
To establish partnerships and new commercial projects, externally, with artists, designers and filmmakers.
Working with the Collections teams to use the BFI collections and images, where appropriate, to develop product ranges.
To create a commercial and venue appropriate core product range which maximises sales and proactively meets customer requirements & expectations
Develop a programme of range review and refresh - making data-based decisions
Source relevant stock in keeping with current and future programmes, festivals & exhibitions
Manage relationships with suppliers and source new suppliers when appropriate and to work with suppliers on designs for products and development of new products
To work with internal departments to assist in the development of promotional and branded merchandise.
To attend trade fairs, to source new products, build relationships with suppliers and stay up to date with current trends.
To assist in the development of direct supply and print on demand product ranges, driving reach, customer choice, brand awareness and revenue.
Merchandising:
To work with the Retail Operations Manager on the display and merchandising of stock to create attractive and commercially viable retail spaces
To be aware of current retail trends for merchandising and the retail experience
To seasonally adjust the stock on display to meet the changing visitor demographics.
Sales:
To review sales performance regularly and take appropriate actions
To ensure cost margins are maintained, planned and budgeted
To engage the Marketing and Comms team to provide product information to enable them to promote the retail offer
To develop or select existing products for online retail
Job Requirements
Proven experience in a Retail Buying role, gained in a similar sized arts/cultural retail environment, or other visitor-focused organisation, with a strong emphasis on commercial growth and customer engagement.
Proven experience in developing and delivering new product ranges, based on sound commercial decision making.
Solid understanding of retail operations, including omni-channel retailing, stock management, merchandising and revenue optimisation..
High level of commercial awareness and ability to balance financial performance with customer experience.
A proven track record of promoting and supporting diversity and inclusion.
Knowledge of the film and the cultural sector, with an interest in the BFI's work and its audiences.
