Job Summary
Job Description
The Sensory Access programme has been designed for young people with autism, and those with learning disabilities - including those with moderate to severe learning difficulties, and multiple and complex learning difficulties.
Our Sensory Experiences take groups on a fun adventure with Ally & the Soundwaves - a band on the hunt to find their missing sounds! Sensory Experiences include sensory stories, original songs, lighting and sound effects and sensory materials for families and school groups to experience.
The sessions take place in our Elgar room and last for around one hour.
Sensory Experiences are similar to an interactive theatre show involving storytelling, live song and sensory resources.
There are 4 main performers, a director and a stage manager. The team is supported by the Royal Albert Hall technical staff and produced by the RAH Engagement team.
There will be a training session with the Engagement team in which you will receive guidance on best practice when engaging with young people with SEND.
There will also be three rehearsal days when you will be integrated into the show.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a singer-guitarist and performer with a background in supporting young people with additional needs to join our existing Sensory Experiences creative team. You will be required to perform original songs as part of the session, as well as
supporting our lead performer/facilitator in engaging with small groups of young people and their families, teachers and TAs, with a particular focus on sensory storytelling.
Original material - recordings and reference materials will be provided in advance.
Ability to improvise and incorporate creative play is essential.
Good level of experience working with a range of young people with additional needs.
Applications from disabled people/people with lived experience of disability are particularly welcome.
Makaton skills desirable but not essential.
Job Requirements
Performers must be available for the majority of the following dates:
Rehearsals: 11, 22 & 23 & 29 May
Event dates: 5, 6 & 7 June, 27 - 31 July and 9,10 & 16 October
