Job Summary

We’re looking for an Artist or Artist Collective to design, make and deliver a nature-inspired artwork that forms the centrepiece of a new wildlife and well-being garden being created in Westbury, Wiltshire

Job Description

Be part of a new project uniting wildlife and well-being with art in the public realm.

Westbury Town Council is working in partnership with Wiltshire Council's art in the public realm programme, Community Conversations and a Local Resident's Group to commission an artwork for a wildlife and well-being garden being created in Penleigh Park, Westbury.

We're looking for an artist or artist collective who can take this project from design to install, creating a nature-inspired artwork that will become the focal point of this exciting new space that has been inspired by community feedback.

This is a call out to artists based anywhere in South West England who can deliver to site. We particularly encourage artists based in Westbury or the county of Wiltshire to apply.

Artwork/s should be:
- nature-inspired
- a new idea, or a work 'in development' and that has not been shown elsewhere
- long-lasting, with a lifespan of 15 years +
- safe, durable and suitable for an exposed outdoor site
- made of sustainable materials sourced in the UK, wherever possible
- appropriate for a public open space used by children and the local community

2026 timeline:
April - Artist call out, inviting two-page expressions of interest
May - Up to three shortlisted artists paid £200 each to develop their final proposals and meet the Commissioning Group to discuss on a video call
June - Final artist/artist collective selected by community vote
Early September - final artwork installed at Penleigh Park, Westbury

Budget:
The successful artist will receive an all-inclusive fee* of up to £8,000 max.

For more information, including photos of the park/site, an understanding of the design of the wildlife and well-being space and planned community events, please email using the address provided.

We look forward to hearing from you.

[*using 'art in the public realm' developer contributions]

Job Requirements

- Artists are invited to submit an expression of interest inc. cost breakdown (two pages max.)
- Deadline for EOI submissions is 30 April 2026 at 5pm
- The Commissioning Group will short-list up to three artists who will be offered £200 each, to develop their final proposal and discuss it on a video call
- Artists must be able to demonstrate that their artwork can be delivered on time and within budget
- Artists will have public liability insurance of up to £5 million, although we're very happy to discuss if you have less

The successful artist will receive an all-inclusive fee of up to £8,000 max. (design, materials, creation/fabrication, delivery and installation*). This includes meeting with the Commissioning Group in person or on Teams, and providing a schedule for maintenance/instructions for de-commissioning, in case needed in the future.

[* We may be able to support install once your artwork is delivered to the site. Please include full details of support needed in your EOI]
