Job Summary
Job Description
Teaching
Delivery of studio-based clay workshops for visiting families, adults, schools and community participants, including various techniques of working with clay, such as hand-building, wheel-throwing, glazing, and firing.
Supporting learners to connect with the heritage of ceramics and making at Watts Gallery - Artists' Village through practical activities.
Providing personalised guidance and support to students to enhance their pottery skills.
Demonstrating correct use of materials, preparing glazes, and evaluating final products.
Planning
Devise and develop activities, workshops and courses that support a wide variety of learners to engage with making.
Collaborate with Engagement team colleagues to shape a varied, inclusive and inspiring programme of activities, workshops and studio-access that support making and creativity, generate new strands of income and meet financial targets.
Materials ordering and administration.
Studio Care
Prepare studios for workshops and technical duties around workshops
Firings of work made through programme activity and coordination of returning works to participants (via drop-in collection slots or other).
Regular cleaning of studios and equipment.
Ensuring all Health and Safety guidelines and procedures are adhered to, reporting any issues immediately.
Job Requirements
Demonstrable ceramics-based studio practice
At least one year experience of teaching ceramics
Experience of working with children and adults in a creative learning environment
An interest in the art and artists of Watts Gallery - Artists' Village
A confident and creative workshop leader
Collaborative with strong team-working and interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Competent IT user (MS Office)
Adaptable and flexible
Highly proactive and self-motivated
