Job Summary

We are looking for a handful of new Trustees to join our enthusiastic Board of Trustees as we enter our fourth decade as Oxfordshire’s largest producing theatre company.

Job Description

New Trustees will join the organisation at an exciting time of change and renewal, following the growth of the Creation core team and restabilising of finances following the Covid pandemic.

We are looking for people who bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to Creation, and who will broaden the diversity of participation and thinking on our board.

No previous theatre experience is required, and we will consider applications from all sectors, though we are particularly keen to hear from individuals with the following expertise:
Finance (the Treasurer position)
Marketing
Fundraising
Legal and Governance
Theatre Production/Commerciality

Job Requirements

We are currently seeking potential trustees with the following qualities:
Enthusiasm for Creation's vision and mission
Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member
Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion
A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

Because of the pivotal role that we play in the Oxford Arts community we are also looking for those who have:
Understanding and connections in the cultural and theatre
world in Oxford and beyond
Connections within the business and charitable sectors in
Oxfordshire
Understanding or experience in running education programmes

Job Responsibilities

Provide support, encouragement and challenge to Creation's
CEO and Artistic Director and key colleagues
Oversee financial plans and budgets and monitor and
evaluate progress
Review and approve Creation's financial statements
Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and
evaluate their implementation
Ensure effective and efficient administration of the
organisation
Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and
controlled effectively
Keep abreast of changes in Creation's operating environment
Contribute to Creation's objectives and reputation by
applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts

Typically, trustees fulfil these roles by preparation for, and attendance at five regular Board meetings annually. These are held in person in Oxford. In addition, there can be one-off strategy and training days as well.
