Job Summary

Art History Abroad seeks a Tutor to join the team, beginning as a trainee on this summer’s Northern Italy course. Guide students through Italy, teaching with enthusiasm, fostering creativity, and supporting their independence. Ideal for art history graduates, especially with conversational Italian.

Job Description

Art History Abroad (AHA) is looking for a dynamic Tutor to join the team, beginning as a trainee on our two-week Northern Italy course (20th July - 3rd August 2026), travelling to Venice, Florence, and Rome. This initial course will act as a probationary period, with the expectation of ongoing tutoring opportunities from September 2026 onwards for at least two years.

Working alongside other tutors, you will support a group of students, typically aged 17-21, delivering engaging teaching on key artworks, architecture, and historical context. Our programmes combine academic study with creative activities such as drawing, painting, and discussion.

Collaboration is central to the role. You will work closely with fellow tutors to plan teaching, share responsibilities, and ensure the smooth running of the course. Pastoral care is another key aspect. You will support students' wellbeing, confidence, and independence throughout the course, helping to create a positive and engaging environment.

This is a part-time, freelance role, with courses running at intervals throughout the year. Trainee tutors are paid from £105 per day, with additional remuneration depending on the level of teaching and responsibilities undertaken each day. Working days are structured on a full-time basis during courses, with a minimum expectation equivalent to 8 hours per day. While our office is UK-based, the role itself is travel-focused. It is an excellent opportunity for art historians who enjoy teaching, travel, and working closely with young people.
