Job Summary

East Riding Libraries are seeking a community-focused artist to take on the role of ‘Artist in Residence’ for an East Riding Library. The Artist in Residence will undertake community engagement to design and deliver a programme of 9 -10 creative workshops for adults between June 2026 and March 2027.

Job Description

East Riding Libraries are seeking at least one community-focused artist to take on the role of 'Artist in Residence' for an East Riding Library. The Artist in Residence will be based at either Hornsea, Withernsea or Leven Library, undertaking community engagement to design and deliver a programme of 9 -10 creative workshops for adults between June 2026 and March 2027. Please note that dates can be flexible providing all sessions are completed by March 2027.

The chosen artist(s) will be required to undertake a minimum of 1 community engagement session with local residents to support in the development of a creative workshop programme which is relevant and tailored to the local community. A minimum of 9 creative workshops will be delivered in the library branch by March 2027. The artist will be responsible for arranging the logistics of these sessions alongside the library branch, including workshop dates, times and number of participants. The total number of days of delivery will be a minimum of 10, maximum of 11.

The medium of the creative sessions is open to interpretation, however, artists will be required to deliver a range of different sessions to appeal to a wide range of community members.

This project is part of East Riding's Arts in Libraries programme. Since East Riding Libraries became an Arts Council England funded National Portfolio Organisation in 2023, this programme has delivered high quality creative and cultural opportunities into the hearts of local communities using libraries as local cultural venues.

Artist(s) will be expected to complete the community engagement, design the programme and deliver a minimum of 9 workshops by March 2027. This may take the format of 1 workshop per month, however, this is flexible dependent on community need and needs of the artist and library branch.

What We're Looking For

Demonstrated experience in delivering creative workshops in a community setting for adults.
Artists who can deliver a wide range of workshops in a variety of forms/genres.
Evidence of strong community engagement skills, with the ability to work with people of different ages.
Strong organisational and communication skills.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated on:
Evidence of ability and experience in undertaking community engagement and delivering creative workshops.
Ability to deliver a range of sessions for local residents.
Evidence of ability and experience in organising workshop logistics.

Job Responsibilities

The Artist in Residence will be based at an East Riding Library. The chosen artist(s) will be required to undertake a minimum of 1 community engagement session with local residents to support in the development of a creative workshop programme which is relevant and tailored to the local community.

Fee

Artist(s) will be contracted to deliver a minimum of 10 sessions, including the community engagement session and workshops, for a set fee of £4000. This fee includes material costs and travel expenses.
