Job Summary
Job Description
From September 2026, Brighton People's Theatre begins an ambitious new chapter, and we're building our Board of Trustees to help lead it, including a new Chair.
Over the next three years (2026-2029), we're sharpening how we define and communicate the significance of our work - not changing what we do, but making its depth and impact more visible. This is a pivotal moment for us.
We're recruiting Trustees and a new Chair to help push this work further: redistributing cultural power, building creative agency, and shaping what comes next.
If you care about equity in the arts, community-led practice, work that contributes to systemic change and building something that lasts, we want to hear from you.
If you bring experience in HR, finance, fundraising, digital, community organising, or the arts, and a commitment to social justice, come and join us.
Job Requirements
Ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
Comply with the charity's governing document and the law
Act in the charity's best interests
Manage the charity's resources responsibly
Act with reasonable care, diligence and skill
Ensure the charity is accountable
Job Responsibilities
We want to be upfront about what the role involves so you can decide if it's the right fit for you.
Board meetings are held once a term (3 times a year)
Meetings are usually two hours long
Meetings are held at BPT's office in central Brighton and/or online
Meeting times are set to work best for the Board members
Papers are sent out a week prior to each meeting
Occasional subgroup meetings allow Trustees with relevant knowledge to explore specific issues in depth
Trustees are expected to be involved in the development of BPT's Business Plan and to understand our strategic direction and funding priorities
Away Days, usually once a year, bring in external facilitators to lead bespoke sessions to ensure Trustees are equipped for their role
Our next Away Day is on 2 July to enable new and existing Trustees and staff to begin the process of getting to know each other
