Job Summary
Job Description
The Operations Assistant plays a vital role behind the scenes at Park Theatre, ensuring daily operations run smoothly. This permanent, part-time position (28 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday starting at 9:30 AM) serves as a daytime Duty Manager and key support for the building.
Key Areas of Focus
Daytime Duty Management: Act as the face of the theatre during the day and for matinee performances, ensuring top-tier customer service and a welcoming environment for all visitors.
Scheduling & Systems: Keep the theatre's activities synchronised by updating event management software, managing internal calendars, and handling inbox queries.
Volunteer Management: Supervise, train, and rota our dedicated pool of volunteer ushers, ensuring proper front-of-house coverage for all public performances.
Job Requirements
Skills & Experience
Prior duty management experience, ideally within an arts or live performance venue.
Proven customer service skills with the ability to resolve complaints discreetly.
Familiarity with Spektrix, Artifax, or equivalent box office/event management software.
Experience managing staff or volunteers, including rota building.
Experience supporting patrons with access requirements or working accessible shows.
Strong IT, written, and numerical skills.
Personal Qualities
Calm, personable, and confident under pressure.
Self-motivated and capable of working unsupervised with high attention to detail.
Desirable (Not Essential)
Training/Qualifications in: Fire Marshal, First Aid, Evac+ chair, or Health & Safety management.
Personal License holder.
Job Responsibilities
Operations & Building Support
Act as Duty Manager: open the building, execute room/tech setups, and flag maintenance issues.
Welcome building users, deliver H&S inductions, and support Box Office with deliveries/queries.
Serve as a First Aider and Fire Marshal; manage refreshments for 'Dementia Friendly' sessions.
Scheduling & Admin
Program building activities into event software and manage the admin email inbox.
Build and manage the volunteer usher rotas to ensure full performance coverage.
Matinee Performance Management
Coordinate with technicians, stage, box office, and bar teams for smooth show delivery.
Manage house openings/closings, interval returns, and smooth entry for latecomers.
Lead H&S briefings and fire walks with ushers.
Complete post-show reports (Artifax/Spektrix) and maximize merchandise/programme sales.
Keep FOH displays tidy and ensure auditoriums are clean and secure post-show.
