Are you passionate about inclusive theatre and looking to develop your skills as a workshop facilitator?
We're looking for an enthusiastic and supportive Out of the Box Assistant to join our team at Mansfield Palace Theatre.
Out of the Box is a relaxed, creative group for young people and adults, designed specifically for individuals with:
Cognitive impairments
Autism spectrum disorder
Learning disabilities or difficulties
Developmental disabilities
Our sessions provide a welcoming space where all voices are heard. Through movement, music and drama, participants build confidence, develop life skills and form meaningful connections. We welcome both beginners and experienced performers.
About the Role
As an assistant, you will support our lead practitioners in delivering engaging and inclusive drama sessions, helping participants explore their creativity and work towards two in-house performances each year.
What We're Looking For
An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
Experience or training in performing arts
A strong interest in workshop facilitation
A supportive, patient and inclusive approach
Experience working with people with learning disabilities (desirable but not essential)

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has recently completed drama training and is looking to build experience in directing or facilitation.
Details
Day/Time: Thursdays, 6:30pm - 8:30pm (arrival from 6:00pm, finish after pack-down)
Location: Mansfield Palace Theatre
Pay: £52.50 per session
Start Date: 4th June 2026
Job Requirements
Essential
Experience or training in performing arts (e.g. drama, theatre, dance)
Interest in participatory arts and facilitation
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A patient, empathetic and inclusive approach
Willingness to learn and develop professionally
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable
Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities or additional needs
Understanding of inclusive arts practice
Interest in directing or leading workshops in the future
Job Responsibilities
Session Support
Assist with the set-up and pack-down of weekly sessions
Support the delivery of drama, movement and music activities
Help facilitate a safe, inclusive and engaging environment
Provide encouragement and appropriate support to participants
Participant Engagement
Build positive, respectful relationships with participants
Support individuals with varying communication and learning needs
Encourage confidence, creativity and teamwork
Planning & Development
Assist lead practitioners in session planning where appropriate
Contribute ideas for creative activities and exercises
Support preparation for in-house performances (twice annually)
Safeguarding & Inclusion
Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures
Promote equality, diversity and inclusion at all times
Be attentive to participant wellbeing and needs
