Job Description
The RWS Gallery is a recently renovated listed gallery space next to Trafalgar Square which provides a home to the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS). The RWS delivers a year round programme of exhibitions and educational events in support of its charitable aims and the gallery is available for private hire outside of its regular programming.
The RWS is seeking to recruit a small pool of Gallery & Events Assistants to support the permanent team in the day-to-day running of RWS exhibitions, educational activities and private hire events.
Timing of shifts will vary depending on the gallery and event programme but we expect that shifts will be available on Saturdays and during evenings in particular.
Reporting to: Gallery Manager
Contract: Permanent (variable shift-based hours including early morning, evenings and weekends)
Salary: £14.80 per hour
Job Requirements
Essential
- At least 1 year experience working in a retail, hospitality or similar customer facing role, preferably with keyholder responsibilities
- Must be able to work weekends and evenings, although weekday shifts are also expected
- Demonstrable ability to be vigilant to potential health, safety and security risks
- Demonstrable effective organisation and communication skills
Good written and verbal English
- Experience using MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Desirable
- First Aid and Fire Marshal training
- Interest, experience or education in an arts related field
- Experience working during live events such as corporate evenings and drinks receptions
- Experience processing and promoting sales of artworks
- Basic experience with Artlogic CMS systems
Job Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Acting as keyholder responsible for opening, closing and alarming the gallery each day
- Monitoring and maintaining safety and security of the space, artworks and visitors
- Promoting and processing artwork and retail sales and recording according to policies
- Supporting in-person educational activities
- Liaising with event and exhibition organisers
- Greeting and informing visiting members of the public confidently and politely
- Setting up equipment and furniture for events across both floors
- Administration tasks as required
