Job Summary
Job Description
As a museum we are defined by the collections that we hold. Our material is often unique and extremely
varied in its format ranging from collections of published works, pamphlets, maps, ephemera,
photographs, and sound. The collections represent a rich research resource for personal, academic and
commercial researchers.
The Collections Access and Research Team promotes and facilitates access to the diverse collections
held by the IWM. Through the Research Room in London, members or the team proactively engage with
the research community and provide assistance and support in the research process. Staff also engage
with the public and researchers through a range of digital services. Collections Access and Research sits
within the IWM Institute and plays a vital role in supporting the museum's public programming and
engagement activities.
Job Requirements
What We're Looking For
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
Maths and English at Level 1 (or equivalent)
Experience working or volunteering in a busy, customer-facing or public environment
A genuine interest in libraries, museums, or working with collections
Strong communication and basic numeracy skills
Confidence using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
A positive, team-focused mindset with a willingness to learn
Nice to have:
Experience using social media in a work or project setting
Job Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
Support the delivery of library and research services to a wide range of users, including researchers, students, and staff
Provide helpful, front-line support in the Research Room and enquiry services (in person and online)
Contribute to the development of digital library services and online resources
Assist with administrative tasks such as record keeping, rotas, and departmental coordination
Help manage enquiries via email, phone, and internal systems, escalating where needed
Support the library's online presence, including website updates and social media content
Work with colleagues across departments and assist with events and activities
Supervise volunteers when required and contribute to a welcoming, organised environment
