Job Summary

HMDT Music seeks an experienced musician to teach Guitar for the 2026 - 2027 season of its Saturday Programme, based in Hackney, which enriches the lives of young people through high quality, exciting music education and opportunities.

Job Description

The Instrumental strand of the Programme offers students ages 5 upwards, an extensive curriculum including group and individual instrumental tuition, singing, musicianship, ensembles, as well as orchestra and choirs. Its staff are all experienced and dynamic musicians and tutors able to foster an appreciation for a wide variety of musical genres and opportunities.

The successful candidate will teach Guitar from beginners upwards in both small group and individual lessons, and lead our pop/rock band of guitar, percussion and keyboard students. Instrumental lessons and ensembles incorporate general musicianship including some basic theory, historical context and improvisation skills. You should be able to teach using a range of teaching/musical styles Responsibilities include planning the structure and repertoire for each lesson, monitoring student progress and working with the Senior Manager on student's Individual Learning Plans. You should have experience of working with children aged 5-16 in groups and individually.

The role will involve working on Saturdays from 08:30 to 14:45 (hours may vary) for 30 weeks for the 2026-27 Academic year from 19 September 2026 to 10 July 2027, and is renewable each academic year.
