Job Summary

Lead engaging live concert assemblies for primary schools with Greenwich Music School. We’re seeking creative musicians to design and deliver interactive performances that inspire children through live music, participation, and musical discovery.

Job Description

Greenwich Music School is seeking creative, engaging musicians to design and lead live concert assemblies for primary schools across South East London.

These assemblies are designed to inspire children through live music - helping them discover instruments, musical ideas, and the experience of making music together through performance, participation, and interaction.

Assemblies will typically last 20-30 minutes and take place in school assembly settings for Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, or whole-school audiences. They may be delivered by solo performers or small ensembles.

Successful proposals will take part in a supported development process, including a training day (6 hrs) with a leading animateur and primary music specialist. Following development, assemblies will become part of Greenwich Music School's offer for schools to book from September 2026 onwards.

We are looking for musicians who can combine strong performance skills with clear communication, thoughtful educational planning, and confident leadership of large groups of children.

Fees:
£150 development fee for selected proposals attending the training process
Guaranteed minimum of one booking in the first year
£110 per assembly to lead musician
£75 per additional player (up to 3 additional players)

Timeline:
Submission deadline: Friday 22nd May 2026, 1pm
Training invitations: Friday 12th June 2026
Development day: Friday 10th July 2026
Assemblies available for booking: September 2026 - August 2028

As part of Greenwich Music School's investment in development and promotion, assemblies developed through this process should not be delivered independently outside GMS for two years.

All musicians delivering work in schools through GMS will require an Enhanced DBS check and adherence to safeguarding procedures.

Job Requirements

We are looking for musicians who:
Perform to a strong standard
Communicate naturally and confidently with children
Can structure and lead engaging sessions for large groups
Are thoughtful about learning and participation, not only performance
Are organised and reliable
Can rehearse and lead additional players where relevant
Experience working with children or in educational settings is helpful, though we also welcome applications from performers with strong communication and presentation skills.
Assemblies should:
Last approximately 20-30 minutes
Include interactive or participatory elements
Be suitable for primary-aged children
Have clear musical learning points
Work effectively in a school hall environment

Job Responsibilities

Design a creative and educational concert assembly proposal
Lead and deliver assemblies in primary schools
Communicate musical ideas clearly to children
Create engaging interactive and participatory moments
Rehearse and coordinate additional performers where relevant
Attend the July 2026 development and training day if selected
Refine your proposal into a final deliverable assembly format
Deliver assemblies professionally and reliably within schools
Follow Greenwich Music School safeguarding procedures and school expectations
