Job Description
Various Voices is an International LGBTQ+ Choral Festival, the largest outside the US, which happens every four years in a member country of Legato, who hold the Various Voices license. Various Voices Brighton & Hove 2030 is a limited company established to host the 2030 version of the Festival. We are proud to be hosting this festival on behalf of the three member choruses and Legato. This is an opportunity to showcase the city of Brighton and Hove, inspire people with excellence in choral music and community engagement and promote LGBT+ visibility, joy and strength. The Chair's role is to provide non-executive leadership to ensure the successful delivery of the festival. This is a high-profile opportunity to make your mark in the UK and European LGBTQ+ community.
Job Requirements
Governance Experience: A strong understanding of charity and company governance principles.
Strategic Insight: Experience in developing and delivering strategy and business plans.
Leadership Ability: Proven ability to lead a team, and foster a cohesive Board.
Networking & Advocacy: Strong communication skills to act as an ambassador and assist with fundraising.
Arts Understanding: Knowledge of the arts sector, including the voluntary, subsidized, or commercial sectors.
Knowledge and understanding of the LGBTQ+ community
Ambassador Role: Act as the primary spokesperson, representing the organisation to stakeholders, including local authorities, and the media.
Fundraising Support: Assist in fundraising activities, providing access to networks and supporting applications to funders or experience of managing boards/services with a strong fundraising element
Commitment: Roughly two days per month, including board meetings, event attendance, and executive team meetings.
Job Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Leading the board in setting the vision, mission, and strategic objectives in partnership with the Artistic Director/CEO in the successful delivery of the 2030 Festival.
Governance & Compliance: Ensuring the organization complies with relevant legislation or regulations.
Board Management: Planning and chairing Board meetings
Board Development: Lead trustee recruitment, induction, and succession planning to ensure a diverse and skilled board.
Line Management: Acting as the primary liaison, and line manager for the Trustee Board and Project Director (when employed) unless otherwise delegated.
Delegation Oversight: Monitor the delegation of day-to-day management as overseen by Trustees
Financial Stewardship: Overseeing financial management, ensuring proper internal controls are in place.
Advocacy & Representation: Acting as a spokesperson and ambassador for the organisation, managing relationships with major stakeholders such as Brighton & Hove Council
