Job Description

St. Mary Magdalene Church is a large, grade I listed church at the heart of the community in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Ranging from 12th to 17th century, the Church recently completed a 14 month Lottery Heritage funded reawakening project, St. Mary's has a renewed heritage offering telling the story of the community and its people through 800 years of history.

We are looking for volunteers to help our team with our Eco Church accreditation.

Eco Church is a charitable accreditation scheme aimed at helping churches become more caring for the environment and ecological issues. St. Mary Magdalene is currently aiming for accreditation for an Eco Church Gold Award as part of the Reawakening project. As a part of this, we are looking to recruit volunteers to help the team with the process. This is a great opportunity to work practically on a heritage accreditation project, gathering evidence, running events and undertaking practical projects to make sure that the church meets all the standards needed to qualify for the Gold award standard.

Tasks might include:

Working alongside staff and other Eco Church volunteers to assess the needs of the certification process and what evidence needs submitting.
Collating evidence of varying media to support the application for certification.
Curating and helping with the running of Eco Church compliant community events.
Practical church grounds and buildings work that meet Eco Church requirements
Working alongside staff and other volunteers to promote the Church's eco church efforts to the public.

Applicants will be required to provide two references and may be required to undertake safeguarding training before commencing in the role.

This voluntary role is for six months with opportunity for extension depending on outcomes from the Eco Church scheme.
