Job Requirements
To serve as a trustee, you'll need a genuine commitment to the values and mission of High Peak Community Arts and a willingness to act in the organisation's best interests. You should be able to attend board meetings regularly and engage with sub-committees when needed.
You'll need enough literacy and numeracy to engage with board papers and financial reports, and the communication skills to contribute to discussions and decisions. An understanding of the duties of board members and employers is important, as is the ability to maintain confidentiality.
We're looking for people who are open to learning, willing to examine their own attitudes, and comfortable both challenging and being challenged. A readiness to advocate for community arts locally and regionally is also valued.
We welcome people from all walks of life - you don't need a background in governance or the arts. If you're passionate about your community and want to help shape something meaningful, we'd love to hear from you.
Job Responsibilities
Every trustee shares collective and individual responsibility for the board's work. As a trustee, you will be expected to ensure the organisation complies with its constitution and charity and company law, and that its resources are used exclusively in pursuit of its charitable objects. You'll contribute actively to strategic direction - setting policy, defining goals, establishing targets and evaluating performance against them. You'll help ensure the organisation meets its employment obligations, maintains a full suite of up-to-date policies, and is run effectively and efficiently. You'll safeguard its financial viability, protect its property and ensure funds are properly invested. You'll be involved in appointing staff and monitoring their performance and projects. Above all, you'll act as a guardian of the organisation's good name and values, and maintain confidentiality about sensitive matters arising in the course of your role.
