Job Summary

Chris Harper Productions are seeking applications for an experienced Deputy Head of Lighting & Video to work on the production of Disney's High School Musical.

Job Description

Candidates will require relevant hands-on professional experience within a lighting and/or video department and should be able to support the effective day-to-day running of a busy technical operation. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Lighting & Video to ensure the Lighting and Video Designs are maintained to the highest standard throughout the production.

Responsibilities will include supporting the Head of Lighting & Video with all lighting and video operations for the production, including rigging, focusing, programming and running performances; assisting with the rehearsal and execution of lighting and video cues and sequences; maintaining and troubleshooting lighting, video and associated control systems during rehearsals and performances; and helping to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all technical infrastructure throughout the run. The Deputy Head of Lighting & Video will work closely with the Head of Lighting & Video, Production, Technical and Stage Management teams to ensure the smooth delivery of performances, while assisting in the realisation of the Lighting and Video Designers' vision and adapting design elements for the venue, cast and production requirements.

The successful candidate will assist in the maintenance and operation of all lighting and video equipment, including control systems, networking infrastructure, projectors, media servers, LED displays and playback systems where applicable. They will be expected to respond quickly and effectively to technical issues, minimising disruption to rehearsals and performances and ensuring the highest technical standards are maintained throughout the run.

Experience on a large-scale production is essential.

The rehearsal period and performances run from 20th July 2026 to 03 January 2027. Performances are typically Monday to Saturday evenings with matinee performances on Friday and Saturday.

Job Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to liaise effectively with the Creative Team, Production, Company Management, Technical and Stage Management departments. They should be able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure, with strong organisational, technical and problem-solving skills to ensure the smooth running of the production and department.

Desirable skills include:
- Proven experience as a Deputy Head of Lighting & Video, Deputy Head of Lighting, LX2,
- Lighting Technician or similar role within theatre or live events.
- Solid working knowledge of lighting systems, DMX networks, lighting consoles and video control systems.
- Experience working with media servers, video playback systems, projection and LED display technologies.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Good troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
