Job Summary

Chris Harper Productions are seeking applications for an experienced Head of Lighting & Video to work on the production of Disney's High School Musical at The Lyric at The Lowry, Salford & Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, London.

Job Description

Candidates will require relevant hands-on professional experience in a senior lighting and/or video position and should be able to lead and supervise a busy technical department. The successful candidate will act as the primary point of contact for all lighting and video matters on site, managing the day-to-day running of the department and ensuring the Lighting and Video Designs are maintained to the highest standard throughout the production.

Responsibilities will include overseeing all lighting and video operations for the production, including rigging, focusing, programming and running performances; leading and supervising the lighting and video team; programming, rehearsing and executing lighting and video cues and sequences; and maintaining all lighting, video and associated control systems to ensure safe and efficient operation throughout the run. The Head of Lighting & Video will work closely with the Lighting Designer, Video Designer and Creative Team to realise the design vision and adapt it for the venue, cast and production requirements, while collaborating with Production, Technical and Stage Management teams to ensure the smooth delivery of performances.

The rehearsal period and performances run from 20th July 2026 to 03 January 2027.

Job Requirements

Desirable skills include:

- Extensive experience as a Head of Lighting, Head of Lighting & Video, LX1 or similar senior role within theatre or live events.
- Thorough knowledge of lighting systems, DMX networks, lighting consoles and video control systems.
- Experience working with media servers, video playback systems, projection and LED display technologies.
- Proven leadership and team-management experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.

Experience on a large-scale production is essential.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of all lighting and video equipment, including control systems, networking infrastructure, projectors, media servers, LED displays and playback systems where applicable. They will be expected to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively, minimising disruption to rehearsals and performances and ensuring the highest technical standards are maintained throughout the run.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to liaise effectively with the Creative Team, Production, Company Management, Technical and Stage Management departments. They should be able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure, with strong organisational, leadership and problem-solving skills to ensure the smooth running of the production and department.
