Job Summary
Job Description
Sound Connections is a London-based organisation with national reach, working to ensure all children and young people can access inclusive, relevant music and creative opportunities. Rooted in inclusion, equity, youth voice, participation, and social justice, the organisation supports young creatives, practitioners, and the wider sector to become more child-centred and youth-led. Early Years (0-5) is a key strategic priority, delivered through programmes such as the London Early Years Music Network (LEYMN), a long-standing initiative connecting hundreds of practitioners and acting as a collective voice for high-quality early years music practice through networking, research, CPD, and advocacy.
This role leads and delivers the Early Years programme, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy while managing timelines, outputs, and reporting. It involves curating and facilitating in-person and online network events and national sector conversations, and commissioning and delivering training and digital resources that promote inclusive, child-led practice, including SEN/D, anti-racist, and trauma-informed approaches. A key aspect of the role is designing and delivering the Emerging Early Years Music Leaders programme, including recruitment focused on under-represented groups, delivery of CPD, mentoring, placements, and supporting leadership development, reflective practice, bursaries, and resource creation.
The postholder will strengthen LEYMN's national reach and influence, lead research and mapping activities on early years provision, and build strong partnerships with Music Hubs, early years settings, and national organisations. They will represent Sound Connections across the sector, contributing to advocacy, publications, and thought leadership. The role also requires capturing data and insights, supporting monitoring and evaluation processes, and contributing to sector-wide learning, knowledge-sharing, and dissemination.
Job Requirements
We are seeking a highly experienced Early Years music practitioner (0-5) with a strong passion for inclusive, child-led approaches. The role requires expertise in designing and delivering training, facilitating networks or communities of practice, and engaging a wide range of stakeholders, including mentoring emerging practitioners. Applicants should have strong project management and freelance delivery experience, with the ability to manage milestones, budgets, and outputs effectively. Experience working with Music Hubs or national programmes, alongside research, evaluation, and digital resource development skills, is essential.
Candidates must be collaborative, flexible, and confident working in hybrid environments combining London-based and online delivery. A strong commitment to safeguarding, reflective practice, co-creation, and listening to the sector is required, alongside dedication to inclusion, equity, social justice, and the organisation's mission and values.
Job Responsibilities
This role leads and delivers the Early Years programme, managing timelines, outputs, and reporting while aligning with organisational strategy and sector needs. Key responsibilities include curating and facilitating networks and national conversations, commissioning and delivering inclusive training and digital resources, and embedding child-led practice. The postholder will design and run the Emerging Early Years Music Leaders programme, overseeing recruitment (with a focus on under-represented groups), CPD delivery, mentoring, placements, and bursary support.
They will strengthen the national reach and impact of the London Early Years Music Network, lead research and mapping activities, and build partnerships with Music Hubs, early years settings, and sector organisations. The role also involves representing the organisation at events, contributing to advocacy and thought leadership, and ensuring robust monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge-sharing across all programme activity.
