Job Summary

We are recruiting for a Learning Officer, a new role at an exciting time in the development of this Grade I listed, literary house museum in the historic heart of London.

Job Description

Job Purpose

In the past few years, we have taken decisive steps to move toward a more impactful, inclusive, and financially sustainable future. Critical to these efforts are the refinement and expansion of our learning programme as informed by the creation of a recent review and action plan. Our future aims are to:
Build on the learning review to develop a clear strategy for Learning and Public Engagement which will support the achievement of the long-term charitable aims and business needs of the organisation.
Ensure Dr Johnson's House is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive venue for all audiences, that celebrates diversity and representation.
Double the current number of learning, family, and community participants over three years by cultivating new audiences, helping to market the programme to new schools, increasing the diversity of participants, and expanding the accessibility of the programmes.
Create collaborative partnerships and co-curated projects with a small number of schools and community groups.

About the role:
This is a new role, and it provides an opportunity to work with our Director to shape a more strategic, targeted programme for schools, universities and family visitors as well as partners in the community. It will provide you with an opportunity to be creative and resourceful as you accomplish career-enhancing change for a site of significant historic importance. Having never had a dedicated learning officer or marketed our programme broadly, we feel that the House has tremendous untapped potential to grow and diversify. You will be central to our efforts to double learning visits, commence virtual learning and community programming,
and expand the range and diversity of participants and visitors.

Learning Officer
This is a 60% post and requires being onsite at least 80% of the time, including one weekend a month and occasional evenings. Time off in lieu will be given for any overtime worked.

Job Requirements

We are looking for an engaging and self-motivated individual to join our small team. You
will need strong organisation and planning skills and enjoy working independently to deliver
your projects successfully.

You will have:
Experience of developing and delivering learning programmes to a variety of different
audiences including schools, family or intergenerational groups, and underrepresented
communities.
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and verbal and written communication skills, and the
ability to present in an entertaining and engaging manner to a wide variety of audiences.
Experience of budget management and control.
Evidence of developing relationships with partner organisations
Practical knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety requirements
Demonstratable experience of delivering projects or initiatives that increase and improve
access, diversity, and inclusion.

Job Responsibilities

Work with the Director to develop and execute a strategy to achieve annual deliverables including participant numbers, diversity and inclusion targets, income generation, and
impact.
Enhance and deliver the current learning programming for schools and universities and develop new programmes for Early Years, family, and community audiences.
Assist colleagues to plan and execute holiday activities in the House.
Work with the Director and other colleagues to inform wider organisational strategy and future planning.
Ensure the learning programme is sustainable and develop a legacy plan.
Recruit and train volunteers to help deliver aspects of the learning and family programme.
Work in partnership with colleagues at the House and in related organisations to engage with the community.
Work with colleagues to develop a learning-specific marketing plan.
Cultivate effective relationships with partners and provide successful stakeholder management.
