Job Purpose:
In the past few years, we have taken decisive steps to move toward a more impactful, inclusive, and financially sustainable future. Critical to these efforts is our aim to improve the care of and knowledge about our collections, enhance the accessibility and inclusiveness of our interpretation, and increase community engagement.
About the role:
This is a new role. The postholder will manage, care for, and provide access to and engagement with our collections. It provides an opportunity to work with our Director to significantly enhance our interpretation and exhibition programme and add significantly to our community engagement activities. You will have the opportunity to be creative and resourceful as you plan, execute, and evaluate projects that will demonstrate your abilities
and ingenuity while accomplishing notable change for a site of significant historic importance.
Collections Engagement and Access Officer
This is a 60% post and requires being onsite at least 80% of the time, including one weekend a month and occasional evenings. Time off in lieu will be given for any overtime worked.
Job Requirements
Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (e.g. History, English).
Experience of working in a museum, historic house or similar environment.
Knowledge of conservation and collections care management.
Strong commitment to developing inclusive and accessible interpretation and
programming.
Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office programmes and digital platforms.
Experience of working with volunteers or managing teams (voluntary or paid).
Experience of working on events or another public-facing role.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Enthusiasm and a creative, resourceful, inclusive, and flexible approach.
Well-organised with a demonstrable ability to prioritise a varied workload.
Proactive and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Excellent administrative and record-keeping skills.
Job Responsibilities
Work with the Director and others to deliver two small and one major exhibition each year.
Ensure that collections are stored and displayed safely and their condition
monitored.
Help enhance intergenerational and inclusive collections-based interpretation,
community engagement, and related programming.
Secure and coordinate the population of new collections management software.
Help to recruit and provide training for collections and outreach
volunteers.
Utilise the skills of staff, volunteers, and interns to research the collection.
Work with consultants and colleagues to develop new content for interpretation.
Maintain written and audio-visual interpretation of the House and collection.
Deal with collections-based requests and visitor enquires.
Occasionally carry out keyholder duties.
Help write and manage grants for related projects.
Assist the Director with Risk Management monitoring.
Ensure that programmes, projects, and progress are properly evaluated.
