Job Summary
Job Description
Fevered Sleep is seeking trustees to support the executive team and wider board to oversee the strategic health of the organisation. We are looking for people to offer fresh perspectives on the world and our work, and who wish to contribute to the next exciting phase in the company's evolution. You may or may not have been a trustee before. If you haven't, we know that it can be a daunting prospect and we will support trustees who are new to the role. This is a voluntary role, and we will pay out of pocket expenses. We wish to address under-representation on our board and are actively seeking applications from D/deaf and disabled people and people of the Global Majority.
What is involved:
- Attendance at four meetings annually, usually in February, May, August and November
- Each meeting usually takes place 6.30pm - 8.30pm and can be attended remotely or in person. Timing is flexible based on availability and access needs.
- Trustees are required to read Board papers in advance of each meeting, including artistic, financial and strategic reports. The format of Board papers can be adapted to meet access needs.
- You may be required to offer additional support to the management team between meetings. This will always be negotiated in advance and in the context of existing personal and professional commitments.
- About 2 weeks prior to the quarterly board meetings, the Chair and Finance trustee attends an online meeting with the CEO and Executive Director, to review draft papers and discuss the management accounts.
- In recent years, the Finance trustee has also met with the Executive Director for regular catch ups to keep abreast of financial issues. This has been half an hour a month but is according to availability.
Job Requirements
The qualities we look for in a trustee:
- a commitment to the vision and mission of Fevered Sleep
- capacity to devote the necessary time and energy to the role
- integrity and good, independent judgement
- an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties,
responsibilities and liabilities of undertaking the role of trustee
Job Responsibilities
Fevered Sleep's Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring that the company is run sustainably and in accordance with its vision and aims, in compliance with Charity Commission regulations. The trustees provide leadership to and are dynamically engaged with the team and work of the company. Trustees have legal, financial and fiduciary duties under company and charity law and have responsibilities for ensuring that the company complies with any conditions connected to grants of public and private funds. They offer support and challenge, and work closely with the Artistic Directors, the Executive Director and the Programme Producer on strategic, operational and creative planning. Trustees share a passion for our artistic work and our commitment to being an equitable, diverse and inclusive organisation.
