Lewisham Music are looking to recruit a new violin tutor to join our team with the passion to inspire young people with a love of learning and making music.

Job Description

Lewisham Music are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced violin tutor to join our team at Lewisham Music teaching 4 hours small group violin tuition across two primary schools in Lewisham on Mondays starting from September.

There will also be some temporary cover work available in schools during the week and availability to work and cover tuition on Saturdays at our Saturday Centre is also desirable.

PAY
Teaching pay rate starts from £33.81 (inc. holiday pay) per hour, depending on qualifications and type of teaching.

Job Requirements

- Experience of learning, creating, and performing music and/or facilitating music education
- Understanding of the: benefits of different ways of learning music; barriers that young people may face to making music; how learning music supports personal and social development; what motivates young people to learn
- Experience rising to a challenge
- An interest in a child-centred learning experience which values and responds to the needs and interests of individuals, within and beyond your musical specialism
- A high level of proficiency in your area of specialism
- Ability to: plan and deliver high-quality learning to engage and progress a wide range of pupils, musically, personally, and socially; create a safe learning environment, and to communicate effectively; plan activities for a wide range of young people
- Strategies for managing learning in groups; creating learning that offers a level of challenge and independence appropriate to age/ability/capacity/context

Job Responsibilities

- Teach a range of progressive music skills enabling a young person to learn in an enjoyable way
- Deliver high-quality music tuition
- Lead and direct musical ensembles/groups as required, preparing suitable material, and supporting performance or recording opportunities
- Work as part of a team and foster positive relationships
- Communicate with other professionals about pupils' learning needs, and to identify and remove barriers
- Regularly reflect on and develop your own professional practice
Prepare pupils for informal or formal exams or accreditations
- Observe all Lewisham Music policies; to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people, with a mandatory responsibility to report any identified concerns to the relevant professional
- Support the strategic aims of Lewisham Music, advocate for the power of music education and the work of Lewisham Music
