DANCE TEACHER (Freelance) - LANGUAGE OF DANCE

Based in: Various locations based in London & surrounding areas. We have schools ready to go in SE London.
Contract Type: Freelance, sessional contract
Pay: £35 per session including planning & evaluation
Hours: 1-3 hours per week
Start Date: To be liaised with the School / September onwards

About the Language of Dance Trust:

The Language of Dance Trust is a registered charity that promotes dance for all using the unique Language of Dance movement approach. Using a framework of symbols and movement concepts from the developments of Ann Hutchinson Guest, we work across schools, community groups, and professional development settings to inspire and support creativity in movement and learning.

About the Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable freelance Dance Teacher to deliver dance sessions as part of our Dance Moves outreach programme. The programme places professional dance artists into schools to offer accessible, creative dance sessions. Placements will depend on the schools that sign up and may expand as the programme develops.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience delivering dance in educational settings and ideally have some knowledge of the Language of Dance approach. Desirable for the role would be experience in notation, choreological studies or a similar field of work. If unfamiliar with the Language of Dance approach, we will provide training, resources, and class plans depending on experience.

Job Requirements

Person Specification:

- A motivated individual with strong organisational skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Confidence in engaging with new people and building professional relationships.
- Relevant training through a recognised dance organisation and/or dance university or qualification
- Able to take responsibility for own work and manage time effectively.
- Reliable in meeting session delivery deadlines and administrative requirements.

Role Specification:

- Freelance contract for a fixed number of sessions, to be confirmed with the Language of Dance Trust and participating schools.
- Expected delivery: a minimum of one set morning or one set afternoon per week, with potential to increase depending on programme growth and school demand

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

- Deliver high-quality movement sessions in line with the ethos & principles of the Language of Dance Trust.
- Must integrate LOD concepts and framework into teaching sessions.
- Prepare and submit session plans; record attendance and session feedback.
- Complete and submit Risk Assessments for any new venues or spaces.
- Liaise with school staff to deliver end-of-year performances/sharing tailored to the school/students'
needs.
