Job Description

Dates: Wednesday 8th July - Wednesday 26th August 2026
Location: Across our storage unit in Eltham, office in Blackheath, and holiday camp sites in Blackheath, Northwood, Dulwich and Barnes
Hours: Typically 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday
Fee: £122 per day
Contract type: Freelance, fixed-term summer role

The Hive is looking for a practical, organised and proactive person to join our team this summer as a Freelance Summer Logistics Assistant.

The Hive runs creative outdoor holiday camps for children, combining immersive storytelling, bushcraft, art, making, outdoor play and adventure. Behind every camp is a huge amount of preparation, kit, equipment and coordination - and we are looking for someone brilliant to help make that happen.

This is a hands-on logistics and operations role, ideal for someone who enjoys being organised, working in a highly physical role, solving practical problems, working independently, and supporting a busy team during a fast-paced summer period.

About the role

The Freelance Summer Logistics Assistant will support the logistics and operational preparation for our summer camps. You will work closely with our Head of Camps, Summer Administration Assistant, permanent team and freelance facilitators to help ensure our camps are well-resourced, well-organised and running smoothly.

The role will mostly be based across our storage unit in Eltham (SE9), our office in Blackheath (SE3), and our holiday camp sites in Blackheath (SE3), Northwood (HA6), Dulwich (SE21) and Barnes (SW13). There will be limited opportunities to work from home during this period.

Job Requirements

We are looking for someone who:

- Is available for the full summer period: Wednesday 8th July - Wednesday 26th August 2026
- Has a full UK driving licence, and ideally access to your own vehicle that you are happy to use to transport some equipment. If you do not have access to your own vehicle The Hive may be able to provide one.
- Has a keen eye for detail and is proactive, resourceful and highly organised
- Is confident multitasking and prioritising effectively
- Has strong communication skills
- Is flexible and able to respond to requests quickly
- Is comfortable working independently and taking initiative
- Enjoys working practically and solving problems
- Has experience using iPads, Mac and PC laptops, iPhones, Microsoft Office and Excel in a professional setting
- Enjoys a mixture of independent work at our storage unit and collaborative work with our facilitators and permanent team
- Has an interest in education, outdoor learning and working with children

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

- Travelling between our camps, office and storage unit to deliver equipment where needed
- Responding to questions about kit and equipment from our freelance facilitators
- Updating forecasts and financial summaries, ensuring kit and equipment purchases are recorded accurately
- Ordering kit and equipment as required
- Cleaning, replenishing and organising boxes, resources and equipment
- Monitoring technology, including iPads, laptops, smartphones and WiFi dongles, and updating devices where required
- Supporting the camp team, including providing cover for absent staff and joining activities where needed
- Offering administrative support to the Head of Camps
- Working alongside the Summer Administration Assistant to support the Head of Camps and wider camp team
- Helping the team respond quickly and calmly to practical issues as they arise during the summer
