Job Description
About the role
As a Student Support Advisor, you'll provide frontline pastoral and wellbeing support to students navigating a range of personal and practical challenges. Working within a centrally coordinated, digital-first service, you'll play a key role in ensuring students feel heard, supported and guided to the right help at the right time.
You'll manage a varied caseload, offering structured support through assessment, triage and one-to-one sessions, while working closely with colleagues across the University and external services to deliver a consistent and compassionate student experience.
What You'll Do:
Provide empathetic, trauma-informed support to students experiencing wellbeing, mental health or practical challenges
Manage a caseload, delivering one-to-one support sessions both online and in person
Carry out assessment and triage, identifying appropriate support and next steps
Maintain accurate, confidential case records using digital systems such as TargetConnect
Respond to student enquiries and contribute to drop-in sessions
Refer students to internal or external specialist services as needed
Escalate safeguarding concerns in line with procedures and use sound judgement in managing risk
Work collaboratively with academic teams and external partners to support student outcomes
Contribute to workshops, initiatives and wider activities that promote wellbeing and inclusion
Job Requirements
What You'll Bring:
Experience supporting young adults, with an understanding of the challenges they may face
The ability to provide supportive, non-judgemental and inclusive pastoral care
Strong communication skills and confidence handling sensitive situations
Good organisational skills, with a focus on accurate record-keeping
Confidence working with digital systems in a case management environment
The ability to manage your workload, use initiative and recognise when to escalate concerns
Emotional resilience and a calm, professional approach in a busy setting
