Job Summary
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced theatre maker and facilitator with a specialism in forum theatre, co-creation and working with young people.
The selected artist will support New Creatives to test ideas, build confidence, develop performance skills and create a scratch/R&D performance shaped by their voices. This project is not only about making a new piece of theatre. It is about giving young people in Peterborough genuine creative agency, professional insight and a meaningful route into arts and culture.
The lead artist will help model what collaborative, inclusive and environmentally conscious theatre-making can look like. The final work will be shared at a scratch night in Peterborough and as a work-in-progress sharing at a fringe festival, likely Camden Fringe, with potential for future development.
Shortlisted artists will be invited to deliver one paid taster workshop with New Creatives in November/December 2026. From January to August 2027, the selected artist will work regularly with the group in Peterborough, including weekly evening sessions during the main development period, excluding school holidays and agreed non-delivery weeks.
Weekly paid time is based on 3.5 hours per delivery week: 2.5 hours delivery and 1 hour planning. The exact number of delivery weeks will be confirmed before contracting. The process will culminate in a scratch night and work-in-progress sharing, rather than a fully realised production.
The taster workshop fee is £150. The selected artist will be paid £48.40 per hour for weekly delivery and planning. They will also receive support from the Jumped Up Theatre team, subject matter support around AI and the environment, and the opportunity to develop a relationship with an Arts Council England NPO
Deadline: 22 July 2026. Interviews will take place week commencing 27 July 2026, online or in person. Four artists will then be selected to deliver paid taster workshops. New Creatives will choose one artist to lead the process.
Job Requirements
We are looking for artists who are skilled in theatre-making, forum theatre, facilitation and co-creation.
You should have experience creating scratch performances or new work in development, and experience working with young people, or a strong interest in developing this area.
We are looking for someone who can deliver fun and meaningful taster workshops that introduce young people to forum theatre and devising.
You should be interested in exploring the environmental impacts and ethics of AI through performance, and share our values of collaboration, inclusion and environmental awareness.
You will need to work well in schools and community spaces, respond to the group's needs and access requirements, and be available in Peterborough from November to August 2027, including regular evening sessions.
The selected artist will need an enhanced DBS check.

Champion inclusivity, creativity and climate-conscious thinking throughout the creative process.
Collaborate with the Jumped Up Theatre team, young people and local communities throughout the project.
