Job Summary
Job Description
As chair, you will lead the board and ensure that it is effective in overseeing the implementation of the organisation's direction and strategy. You'll also be responsible for ensuring robust and effective governance of the board in line with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as following recommended practice as laid out in the charity governance code.
Routine activity will involve:
- Working collaboratively with the board of trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities and that there is an appropriate number of trustees with the requisite mix of skills, experience and backgrounds
- Supporting the chief executive and hands-on work with the senior management team, particularly on fundraising activity, including meeting donors and making specific asks
- Developing and maintaining relationships with key influencers in the arts and opera sectors
- Holding the board and senior management team to account for the charity's mission, vision, culture and strategic direction
- Acting as an effective ambassador, champion and figure head for the BYO and its mission
- Ensuring that the board regularly reviews major opportunities and risks and fulfils its duties to ensure the sound financial health of the charity
- Actively promoting diversity, equality and inclusion at all levels of the organisation, including around the board table
