Job Summary

Looking for new trustees with an interest in theatre for children and young people to help shape our future.

Job Description

M6 is one of England's leading theatre companies, specialising in creating work for, with and by children and young people.

Our Board of Trustees is an important part of who we are. Our committed Board Members have valuable skills, knowledge and experience to provide the highest standards of governance. The Board determined overall policy and sets M6's strategic direction to drive the company forwards. They review performance and solve issues to ensure achievement of organisational goals.

We are looking for trustees who have an interest in theatre for children and young people.

We would love to hear from potential trustees who have a connection to Rochdale.

Job Requirements

Trustee appointments are made for a period of three years, after which they are reviewed by the Board and considered for re-appointment. Trustee positions are voluntary and there is no renumeration. Basic expenses and reasonable travel expenses to enable you to attend meetings will be reimbursed.

The Board usually meets 4 times a year, in the evening, normally in person in Rochdale. Meetings last 2 hours with reading time needed before hand for papers. Whilst our meetings are in person, we are keen to make being a Trustee as accessible as possible so welcome applications from people who might only be able to join us remotely, although we aim to hold one in-person away day each year.

Many of our Trustees also sit on the sub-committees mentioned above, although this is not necessary for you to be appointed to the Board. Our sub-committees meet four times a year, usually a couple of weeks before the full Board meeting.

Job Responsibilities

The Board of Directors is responsible for:

Determining the charity's mission, purpose and goals

Approving company policies and setting priorities

Approving the programme of activities

Ensuring M6 takes the needs and interests of the community it serves into account

Ensuring there are adequate resources to carry out the company's activities

Ensuring the company keeps proper accounts

Approving the budget, monitoring income & expenditure and ensuring resources are used effectively

Ensuring regular monitoring and reviewing all aspects of the company's work

Ensuring M6 operates within Company and Charity law

Employing staff, including the appointment of senior staff
