Job Summary

Leicestershire Music is seeking an experienced and visionary Youth Choir Director to establish, lead, and grow our new youth choir (secondary aged pupils). This is a unique opportunity to shape a choir from the ground up.

Job Description

We are looking to issue a contract for services to someone who can combine strong musical and vocal expertise with the ability to design and implement effective recruitment and retention strategies, ensuring the choir becomes sustainable, engaging, and high-quality from its inception.

This is a self-employed annual contract

In return for delivering 30 x weekly rehearsals during term time and 24 hours for planning and outreach we will pay £2760 in total (to be invoiced termly) - there will also be additional renumeration for a minimum of 3 concerts per year and 2 meetings.

Rehearsals will be on a Monday in term time from 5:00 - 6:30pm in a central Leicester location (Haymarket Theatre).

Job Requirements

Essential
Proven experience directing youth choirs or similar vocal ensembles.
Experience establishing or developing new musical groups, programmes, or initiatives.
Strong conducting and rehearsal leadership skills.
Excellent understanding of vocal development in young people.
Ability to build positive relationships with young people, families, and partners.
Strong organisational and planning skills.
Commitment to inclusion, diversity, and safeguarding.

Musical Leadership & Vocal Development
Plan and direct high-quality rehearsals with clear musical and developmental outcomes.
Develop singers' vocal technique, musicianship, and ensemble awareness.
Foster healthy vocal practices appropriate for young voices.
Prepare the choir for planned performances, concerts, and public appearances minimum
of 3 per year.
