Job Description
Our mentoring scheme is designed to support talented people who have a strong interest in the arts and minimal formal training to develop their creative practice
We are looking for up to 6 mentees that we will pair with specific participants to help them to develop their current creative disciplines. Because of this we are looking for people with specific experience that will fit in with the disciplines our artists are current practicing. These are listed below:
- Metal sculpture
- Life drawing / figurative painting
- Surrealist painting/sculpture
- Pop Art
- Surrealist / Anime
This is a unique opportunity to use your skills to support someone's creative process helping them to build confidence, visibility, and a future in the arts.

We intend to conduct an interview with the identified mentors and mentee they have been matched with to ensure basis for a working relationship. We are happy to reimburse travel for attending this.
Job Requirements
As a Making It Out Arts Mentor, you will:
Deliver up to 8 half-day sessions
Support mentees to develop their artistic practice
Coach individuals in building a strong arts portfolio
Help identify and access further creative opportunities
Support mentees in sharing and promoting their work via social media/websites
Support them making applications to courses, exhibitions, and other opportunities
Build a positive, supportive, and encouraging mentoring relationship
Who we're looking for:
Practising artists or creatives with a passion for mentoring
Individuals with strong communication and interpersonal skills
People who are empathetic, encouraging, and
non-judgemental
An understanding of, or interest in, working with people affected by the criminal justice system
Experience in mentoring, teaching, or community arts is desirable

Making It Out is a local charity based in Brighton and Hove. MiO has been set up to enable people move on from prison, homelessness and adiction through regular engagement in creative making activities.
Through involving our participants in the process of designing and making a variety of artistic and innovative products we equip them with the skills, motivation and confidence they need to build and maintain more positive and stable futures for themselves.
