Fee to be proposed by the tenderer. We expect proposals to reflect the scope of the commission and offer good value for money. As a guide, we anticipate submissions to be under £10,000.
About the Commission
The Barracks Trust is seeking an experienced and creative web design and development partner to redesign its website.
The Barracks is a Grade II listed building and thriving enterprise centre in the heart of Newcastle-under-Lyme, providing affordable workspace for independent businesses, makers, creatives and small enterprises.
We are looking for experience in
- Website design and development
- UX/UI design
- Accessible, mobile-first websites
- Digital storytelling
- Heritage, cultural, placemaking or regeneration projects (desirable)
The website should support four interconnected functions:
1. Promote The Barracks as a thriving enterprise centre and encourage enquiries for available workspace.
2. Showcase and support existing tenants, helping raise the profile of businesses based within The Barracks and demonstrating the value of the enterprise community.
3. Enable visitors to discover and engage with the heritage of The Barracks through accessible and interactive digital content that brings the building's history to life.
4. Promote and administer the Trust's grant-giving programme, making it easy for organisations and individuals to learn about funding opportunities, apply online and understand the impact of previous grants.
This commission is more than a website refresh. We are seeking a strategic digital partner to create a website that reflects our role as a heritage-led enterprise centre, showcases our tenant businesses, promotes our grant-giving programme, and brings the building's rich history to life through engaging and interactive digital content.
Job Requirements
We are looking for an individual, studio or agency with experience in designing and developing high-quality, accessible websites.
Applicants should demonstrate strong UX/UI design skills, experience delivering websites from concept to launch, and the ability to recommend appropriate CMS solutions.
Experience working with arts, culture, heritage, charity or community organisations is desirable, along with knowledge of SEO, analytics and engaging digital storytelling.
We're looking for a creative partner who can think strategically as well as technically, helping us create a website that promotes The Barracks as a thriving enterprise centre, showcases our tenant businesses, brings our heritage to life through engaging digital content, supports our grant-giving programme, and is easy for the Trust to manage and develop in the future.
Freelancers, studios and agencies are all welcome to apply.
Job Responsibilities
The successful applicant will work with The Barracks Trust to plan, design, develop and launch a new website that reflects the organisation's role as a heritage-led enterprise centre.
Responsibilities include:
- Undertaking discovery and stakeholder engagement
- Developing the site structure and user experience
- Creating an accessible, mobile-first website
- Recommending and implementing an appropriate content management system
- Integrating engaging heritage content and online grant application functionality, supporting tenant promotion
- Migrating agreed content
- Testing prior to launch
- Providing training for Trust staff and offering post-launch support.
The successful applicant will manage the project to an agreed timetable and budget, working collaboratively with the Trust to deliver a high-quality, future-proof digital platform.
