Job Description
Open Call for Musicians & Composers for 'Song of the Pine's Sun'
Deadline: 1st September 2026
We're inviting composers to create an original musical response to a sculpture by artist Cecile Elstein. A piece that captures warmth, hope, and renewal. The finished work will be showcased alongside the sculpture at concert and exhibition opportunities.
About the Sculpture:
Carved from pitch pine, the sculpture traces the natural patterns and grain of the wood into flowing shapes. It reflects Cecile's childhood memories of mountains, trees, sun, and sand. A lifetime of experience formed into a single standing structure. Light enters through the top and radiates outward, echoing her personal response to life.
Dimensions: 210 x 45 x 30cm
The Brief:
Final piece: 3 - 5 minutes in length
Composed to be paired with and performed alongside the sculpture
Who Can Apply:
Open to everyone - emerging artists, solo musicians, bands, and collectives, at any experience level.
Fee: £700 upon completion
(Maximum of 50 hours of work)
To Apply, Please Submit:
- A 30-second music sample/composition
- What inspired your instrumentation, based on the sculpture?
- How would you like the final piece showcased alongside the sculpture?
- What is your personal response to the sculpture?
How to Submit:
- Email your music and written responses to: [email protected]
- File formats: MP3, WAV, or a private link (YouTube/SoundCloud) - please include any necessary passwords
- No WeTransfer links, as these expire
About Me:
I'm Hannah, a sound artist working as a sound curator for Cecile Elstein and Dreamstudio.io.
