Job Summary

Diverse City is looking for a new a Chair and Trustees to join our board, and support us in making important decisions about the management of our charity. We are seeking expression of interest from people who are committed to our core mission: achieving equity in the arts.

Job Description

Both Trustee's and the Chair of the Board play a central role at Diverse City, making important decisions about the management of the charity. Our trustees are passionate about the arts and about justice and equity.

While all Trustee's contribute to our governance, the Chair of the Board also takes the responsibility of leading an effective board, managing Diverse City's Executive Team, and representing the organisation as an ambassador and advocate for Diverse City.

2026 is an exciting year for us - we are celebrating our 20th birthday as an organisation, and are looking forward to sharing the opportunity for new members of the board to become part of our ongoing journey together.

Job Requirements

Diverse City are seeking candidates who are committed to our core mission - achieving equity in the arts.

We are looking for people who have a wholehearted commitment to our valued and mission, as well as a team-focused approach to problem solving and management. Equality and fairness is central to the work we do as a company, so a commitment to championing diversity and inclusion in the arts is essential. Ideal candidates will be well versed in active listening and respecting the diversity of thought, lived experience and opinion from others - and be comfortable applying their strategic skills creatively in practice. Prior experience in a board-level role is not necessary - but a willingness to learn about the role and responsibilities of a trustee is essential.

We welcome all applicants, and are particularly interested in candidates with skills in:

- Working with the Arts Council as a National Portfolio Organisation
- Fundraising
- Finance
- Digital Communication

Job Responsibilities

Both the Chair and Trustees are required to attend four board meetings per year (remote) as well as any additional ad hoc meetings deemed necessary by the board (usually 2-3 per year). We also invite all members of the board to attend one annual trustee and staff away-day (in person), and come along to attend performances and events when possible (1-2~ per year).

Ahead of meetings you will need to spend time reviewing papers and documents (support for this will be made available when required). The expected time commitment for all trustees is on average 1-2 days per month.

For more details and full outline of the role responsibilities, please see the recruitment packs shared on our website linked below.
