Job Summary

Max Lamb has an opportunity for a mid-senior maker and workshop manager to join its team in London.

Job Description

Working closely alongside Max, the successful candidate will have the ability to manage the fabrication of highly varied and complex projects from products, lighting, furniture and installations - including design development, prototyping, costing and procurement, production management, and installation.

The role will include:
- Production management including furniture fabrication and finishing from one-offs to batch production to outsourcing, using an extensive palette of materials such as hardwoods, softwoods, sheet materials, stone, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, polystyrene, wax, textiles, leather and cardboard
- Workshop management including machinery maintenance, health and safety, project intake and resourcing, workflows, production planning and procurement, documenting and delivery
- Team management working alongside a small team of makers and workshop assistants plus coordination of external suppliers and contractors.

Job Requirements

Experience, skills and qualifications:
- Experienced, high level of making skill and knowledge of a multitude of materials and fabrication techniques including all common woodworking machinery and hand tools, metalworking such as TIG welding and milling, and an understanding of other processes such as laser-cutting, spinning, turning, tube-bending, sewing, casting, dyeing, etc
- Ability to apply material and fabrication knowledge to help develop efficient methods of making furniture and products to a high level of craftsmanship
- Minimum five years of making experience within a professional workshop environment
- Good technical proficiency in at least one CAD software such as Vectorworks or Rhino would be advantageous to help develop technical drawings and cutting lists
- Good team-working skills and an innate ability to transform ideas into reality with efficiency, resourcefulness and creative flair
