Job Summary

Gather, a leading independent hot glass studio in Woolwich, seeks a Studio Manager to run client commissions, production and class scheduling, supplier relationships and finance admin — working directly with founder Phoebe. Commercially sharp, organised, ready to grow. Apply by Fri 21 Aug.

Job Description

Gather is one of the UK's leading independent hot glass studios, based in Woolwich, London. We're a tight team of three full-time and two part-time people, making handblown glassware, lighting and bespoke commissions for architects, brands and private clients, and running classes that bring hundreds of people through the studio door every year.

We're small, ambitious, and growing fast enough that a Studio Manager has become essential to how we work.

This is an opportunity to become the operational backbone of a creative business at an exciting stage of its growth. You'll work directly with Phoebe, our founder and Creative Director, taking on the parts of the business that currently pull her away from glass design and strategic decisions: client project admin, production and class scheduling, supplier relationships, and some financial admin. The better you get at this job, the better the creative and production team are able to function - that's the real measure of the role's success.

We don't need someone who already knows everything. We need someone sharp enough to learn our world quickly, and keen enough to improve it.

As Gather grows - with lighting as our next major product line - this role has real potential to evolve with it. Done well, it's a genuine path towards a senior operational position, with more scope and more input into how the lighting part of the business develops.

This isn't a design role, and you won't be making glass or developing product. It isn't a strategy role either, though your input will be asked for. Your job is to make it possible for the creative team to do their best work, by making sure the business behind the making is organised, efficient, and reaching its potential.

- Four-day working week, or 30 hours. Negotiable.
- £38,000-£44,000 FTE, pro rata for four days, depending on experience
- 28 days paid leave, pro rata
- Staff discounts
- A genuine hand in shaping one of the UK's fast growing contemporary glass studios

Job Requirements

- Experience coordinating projects, people or operations - sector background matters less than the experience itself
- Commercially minded: comfortable thinking in margins, budgets and deadlines
- A clear communicator who enjoys working within a small team
- Good judgement about what to fix independently and what to escalate
- Organised, and someone who finishes what they start
- Confident with digital tools and quick to learn new ones; Google Workspace experience essential
- Shopify, Xero, Notion and Claude workflow experience is a strong bonus
- Time in design, craft, manufacturing or architecture is helpful but not essential
- Comfortable in a business that is still learning and changing as it grows

We cannot stress enough how much attention to detail and follow-through matter in this role. If setting up and enforcing systems isn't something you enjoy, this isn't the role - or the studio - for you.

Job Responsibilities

- Client projects: main point of contact for clients seeking bespoke commissions, from enquiry to delivery - quoting against our pricing framework, chasing proposals, managing invoicing, and making sure every client feels looked after. Evaluating project budgets and margins to identify which jobs are worth taking on
- Production & planning: run the production calendar, lead the weekly workflow meeting, track targets and deadlines, and keep an eye on margins, reporting to the founder
- Class scheduling: manage the class calendar and schedule freelance teachers and assistants
- Suppliers & logistics: manage UK and international supplier relationships, coordinate outsourced production, handle shipping and logistics, and sort out problems as they arise
- Studio operations: tighten up systems, maintain documentation, handle insurance and compliance, and prepare for quarterly planning
- Finance admin: submit supplier invoices to our bookkeeper, manage purchase orders, and support payroll
