Job Summary

We’re looking for a Festival Assistant to support the team in the delivery of a new week-long arts festival we’ll be delivering with the communities of Washwood Heath and Ward End in Birmingham this October 2026 half-term, as part of our multi-year co-creation project Neighbourhood Creatives.

Job Description

China Plate are theatre and arts producers based in Birmingham and working across the UK and internationally. We're a charity, and we help people to make creative projects happen - from theatre shows, to audio anthologies, to bus stop galleries.

As the Festival Assistant, you'll be supported by our Producer who is leading on the project alongside our Co-Artistic Director. You'll also be working closely with our Assistant Producer, Festival Intern, project freelancers and community venue partners. This is the first time we'll be producing a festival in the area, so this is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of the delivery and gain experience in the production and organisation of a community-led events programme.

We're particularly interested in hearing from those who already have a connection to Washwood Heath and Ward End but note this isn't a requirement for applicants.

This is a short-term, full-time PAYE contract. It could be possible to reconfigure this role as a freelance role, with a schedule agreed between the candidate and China Plate - if this would be preferable to you, please let us know when applying.
